Granite Harbour season 2: Release date, cast and latest news
The BBC Scotland crime drama is landing on our screens this week.
Season 1 of BBC Scotland's Granite Harbour may have landed in 2022 but since its release, fans have been clamouring for a second season. It's a good thing, then, that the new season lands on our screens this week.
Granite Harbour season 2 premieres on BBC Scotland tonight (Thursday 2nd May) but will be kicking off on BBC One one day later – on Friday evening.
The series revolves around RMP Sergeant Davis Lindo (Romario Simpson), who arrived in Aberdeen in season 1 as a new recruit to Police Scotland and worked alongside DS Lara 'Bart' Bartlett (Hannah Donaldson).
Things didn't exactly get off to the smoothest of starts for Davis, as he soon found himself plunged into the murder investigation of a local oil magnate, who was found dead just as his company merged with a renewables firm.
Teasing more about what we can expect in season 2, Simpson said: "The story follows a young refugee woman who ends up intertwined into a huge drug operation after her husband disappears from the ship they snuck on to.
"The team investigate this new drug sweeping the city while trying to figure out what happened onboard the Stolthet ship."
As well as Simpson and Donaldson reprising their roles, there's many returning faces and new characters. Read on for everything you can expect from season 2.
Granite Harbour season 2 release date
Granite Harbour season 2 starts on Friday 3rd May at 8pm on BBC One, but the run will actually begin first on BBC Scotland, on Thursday 2nd May at 10pm.
All three new episodes are also now available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
Filming on the new three-part series began in October 2023 and was confirmed back in August 2023, with executive producer for BBC Scotland Gavin Smith saying at the time: "We’re delighted to have Granite Harbour return to BBC Scotland and can’t wait to see Aberdeen shining on screen next year."
He continued: "Lindo and Bart are a great double act detective duo and we’re excited to see what crime they come against this time around.
"The first series of Granite Harbour was an iPlayer success story for the North East and BBC Scotland will continue to develop and support scripted content representing different areas of Scotland."
Granite Harbour season 2 cast: Who will return?
Series leads Romario Simpson (who plays Davis Lindo) and Hannah Donaldson (who plays Lara 'Bart' Bartlett) are returning for Granite Harbour season 2.
Simpson previously said about the series renewal: "I'm delighted to be returning to Scotland to film season 2 of Granite Harbour. I'm looking forward to reuniting with the original cast and collaborating with some new creatives.
"It’s another opportunity to learn more about Aberdeen, and take in some vital fresh air and open space."

What will happen in Granite Harbour season 2?
The show's first season focused on a topic of particular relevance to Scotland – Aberdeen's history as an oil powerhouse.
But the second season will see Lindo and his new colleagues tackle another brand new case, which will see Lindo (Romario Simpson), Bart (Hannah Donaldson) and the police team "investigate two fatal cases with dark consequences at their heart, immersing the Major Investigations Team in the granite city’s criminal underworld".
According to the synopsis: "When drug kingpin Grace McFadden’s (Lesley Hart) notorious fixer turns up dead, the MIT have their work cut out to find the source of a new cocaine and ketamine compound flooding the streets. Fearing an impending drugs turf war is brewing, the team fight to uncover the truth.
"Meanwhile, Lindo investigates the case of pregnant stowaway, Mariam (Afsaneh Dehrouyeh), who claims her partner was killed on their journey across the sea. At the dockside, Lindo and Bart’s suspicions are raised by the guarded behaviour of Captain Anders Nielsen (Søren Malling) and his protege Axel Berg (Christopher Rygh) from the Stolthet, a Norwegian cargo ship which recently arrived in Aberdeen."
It continues: "After complications and conflicts arise, DCI MacMillan pulls Lindo and Bart off the stowaway murder case. However, Lindo has other ideas, refusing to give up on his hunch the Stolthet’s crew are guilty of something sinister.
"With the drug investigation making slow progress, Monty and Mallick are further frustrated by the McFadden family’s unwillingness to cooperate.
"As the investigation pulls the team in different directions, Lindo faces an added problem when his estranged father, Grantley, arrives for a visit from Jamaica. However, it’s clear he’s got an agenda of his own."
